This website, nedness.com, is run by NEDness Limited, a company registered in Jersey with its registered office at 2nd Floor, Commercial House, Commercial Street, St Helier, Jersey JE2 3RU. NEDness Limited is the data controller for any personal information collected through the site. Questions about cookies or privacy can be sent to privacy@nedness.com.
What are cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device, such as a computer, phone, or tablet, when you visit. They serve a range of purposes, from keeping you signed in to remembering your choices and, in some cases, supporting services provided by other organisations.
Not all cookies are the same. Essential cookies are necessary for a website to function. Non-essential cookies are used for purposes such as advertising, social media integration, and third-party analytics. Under the data protection rules that apply across the jurisdictions in which we operate, non-essential cookies require your consent before they can be set.
Our approach to cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum. The site sets two cookies, and both exist only to keep registered people signed in. On pages that carry one of our enquiry forms, a third short-lived cookie is set by the security service that protects the form from automated abuse. That is the whole list.
We do not use advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager or any other third-party tracking, and we set no non-essential cookies. Because every cookie on the site is essential, the site does not carry a cookie consent banner. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before anything new is set.
Cookies used on our website
Our website is built on Ghost Pro, which sets strictly necessary cookies for authentication and session management when someone signs in to reach registered content.
Our website is built on Ghost(Pro). The two sign-in cookies are set when you sign in and removed when you sign out; if you never sign in, they are never set. They are exempt from the consent requirement because they provide a service you have asked for. The Cloudflare cookie is set only when a page containing an enquiry form loads, and it expires thirty minutes later. Cloudflare describes it in its cookie documentation.
Enquiry forms and HubSpot
Our enquiry forms (at present the partner enquiry form on the Partners page) are provided by HubSpot, the system we use to manage contacts and correspondence. The form loads from HubSpot’s servers in the European Union. When the page loads, HubSpot records that the form was shown, which involves receiving your IP address. When you submit the form, the details you enter are stored in our HubSpot account, which is hosted in the EU. HubSpot’s form service does not set tracking cookies on our site, and we do not use HubSpot’s website tracking code. HubSpot publishes a full list of the cookies its services can set here; of those, only the Cloudflare security cookie in the table above is used on nedness.com. How we handle the information you submit is covered by our Privacy Policy.
Website analytics
Ghost(Pro) provides built-in analytics that work without cookies and without identifying individual visitors. We use them to see, in aggregate, which pages are read and where visitors come from. We do not use them to build profiles of individuals, and we do not use Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager or any comparable tool. Ghost stores this analytics data in EU regions.
Book links and Amazon
NEDness takes part in the Amazon Associates programme. In the book club, links to buy a book take you to Amazon, and we may earn a small commission on a qualifying purchase. This costs you nothing extra. Book choices are made on editorial merit; the commission plays no part in what we recommend or discuss.
These are ordinary links. Nothing from Amazon runs on our site, and no Amazon cookies are set while you are here. Once you arrive at Amazon, its own cookie and privacy policies apply, including cookies that record that your visit came from NEDness.
Links to other services
We link to our LinkedIn page, our YouTube channel and our podcast on Buzzsprout. These are ordinary links; each service’s own cookie and privacy policies apply once you arrive there.
We do not embed content from other services on our pages. If we do so in future (a YouTube video, for example), that service may set cookies on your device. We will update this policy first and, where required, ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set.
How to manage cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings; most browsers let you block or delete them. If you block cookies for our site, you will not be able to stay signed in, and the enquiry form may not load. Guidance for common browsers:
The rules that apply
NEDness Limited is established in Jersey, so the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 applies to us, overseen by the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner. Many of our visitors are in the United Kingdom, where the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 govern cookies (the Information Commissioner’s Office explains the rules here), or in the European Union, where the General Data Protection Regulation and the ePrivacy Directive apply. Each of these regimes treats essential cookies as exempt from consent and requires consent for the rest. Our approach is designed to meet all of them.
Changes to this policy
If we introduce any new cookie or third-party service that affects your privacy, we will update this policy and, where necessary, ask for your consent before the change takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last reviewed.
